As part of celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Zanzibar Revolution, the Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH), handed over a newly-built research laboratory to the Kizimbani Agricultural Research Institute, in Zanzibar on 30th December, 2013.

The event was officiated by the First Vice President, Hon. Seif Sharif Hamad, who among other things commended the COSTECH for supporting various projects in Zanzibar. Honorable Hamad urged the Zanzibari researchers to use the laboratory to maximize agricultural products especially research on rice, which is the Zanzibar’s staple food.

As part of fulfilling its mandate, COSTECH granted more than Tshs. 600 million to the Kizimbani Agricultural Research Institute in order to renovate several existing laboratories and build a new one.
