THE MINISTRY OF LABOUR, EMPOWERMENT, ELDERLY, YOUTH, WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN COLLABORATION WITH MINISTRY OF TRADE INDUSTRY AND MARKETING, TANZANIA COMMISSION FOR SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY AND VOLUNTARY  SERVICE OVERSEAS.   IN COMMEMORATING ENTREPRENEURSHIP DAY;   ARE ORGANIZING FIRST   ZANZIBAR YOUTH ENTREPRENEURSHIP FORUM 2016 ON 3rd and 4th OF DECEMBER 2016 IN ZANZIBAR.

 Background
Entrepreneurship Development is recognized worldwide as one of the vehicle for job creation among youth and women and hence enhancing sustainable economic development. The UN General Assembly resolution on promoting Entrepreneurship & Innovation among member states in order to solve youth unemployment.  ILO passed the resolution titled “The youth employment crisis: A call for action”, which clearly speaks about providing career options to youth and Women by supporting entrepreneurship and self-employment through innovation. The Zanzibar Government VISION 2020 clearly speaks on promoting Innovation & Entrepreneurship in Zanzibar. The Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar has launched number of key policies which includes the MSMEs policy (2005), Zanzibar Job Creation Programme (2007), and the first generation Youth Employment Action Plan (2007), the Zanzibar Employment Policy (2009) and establishment of Technology Business incubation centres and second generation Youth employment Action plan II (2014-2018), Result 4 Prosperity (R4P).  Hence, various initiatives have been taken place to promote youth Entrepreneurship development in Zanzibar. Despite those initiatives sparking youth entrepreneurship activities in Zanzibar still needs to be promoted to solve unemployment and social problem in Zanzibar. This is caused by among other things mindset, limited level of creativity, lack of innovationand inferior linkages and networking. Hence the proposed forum aim at bridging the gap in order to narrow down challenges that young entrepreneur’s face.

 Objective:
The aim of this event is to bring together Policy makers, private sectors,   entrepreneurs, innovators, scientists/ researchers, startup and financial companies to promote innovation, creativity in entrepreneurship development activities.   Also to increase networking and build   mindset   among youth and women.  The expected outcome   including production of high value added products and increase youth opportunities.

Beneficiaries:
Directly , the Zanzibaris’ youth and women that have the will to start their own business or are owners of a micro, small or medium enterprise (MSMEs) will  benefit from this project.  Also there are number of indirect benefit such as youth inclusion and contribution in    economic development sector.

Expected output:
The expected  output including the  conducive  policy  with improved business environment and trade facilitation. SMEs linkagesnetworking increase of light manufacturing industry and market growth.

Number of participants:
The expected number of   participants is 200 which include Zanzibaris’ youths, government officials, policy makers, scientists/ researchers, entrepreneurs, inspirational speakers/ facilitators from various sectors and public.

The forum is aiming to inspire the attendees and creating a platform for interaction between entrepreneurs in the businesses ecosystem.  Thus will    promote their product, enable partnerships and exchange best practices.

Date and Location: 3 and   4 December 2016 at Old House of Representatives, Kikwajuni

 The forum will be officiated by Honorable President of revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, Dr. Ali Mohamed Shein on 3rd December 2016.

The forum will incorporate talks from inspirational speakers and exhibition.

There is participation fees   where participants has to pay Tsh 50,000 for two days exhibition and Tsh. 20,000 for attending the forum.  Breakfast and lunch for two days will be available
