The existing statistics on the Tanzanian Economy has revealed that Tanzania is one of the fast growing economies in Africa with a growth rate of over 6.5% from 2000 and an expected growth rate of about 7.3 in 2012

1.Although this has been a good sign for the Tanzania economy the level of poverty has been in contrast to the economic growth.
According to UNDP, poverty in Tanzania remains at an alarming rate. During 2001-2007 the level of poverty remained high at 33.6 per cent and the absolute number of the poor has increased by 1.3 million during the same period as per the Household Budget Survey 2007.

2 On the other hand the rate of unemployment has been decreasing at a lower rate compared to
growth in GDP. Between 2001 and 2006, GDP has being growing at an average rate of 4.5% while
the rate of unemployment from 2001 to 2006 has being decreasing at an average rate of 1.9%

3. The Ministry of Trade & Industry is finalising the results of a recent survey.
