International Workshop on Urbanisation, Land Use, Land Degradation and Environment

The NAM S&T Centre announces the organisation of an International Workshop on
'Urbanisation, Land Use, Land Degradation and Environment' at Denizli, Turkey during
29th September to 1st October 2009 in association with Pamukkale University,
Denizli, Turkey and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey
(TÜBITAK) and invites nominations for participation from the specialists,
professionals and policy makers from the government departments, academic
institutions and private sectors in the member countries of the NAM S&T Centre and
other developing countries with relevant scientific background and from specific
disciplines such as Land degradation, Soil Sciences & Soil Erosion and related
Environmental issues like Water quality, Resources & Management; Pollution; Waste
Management, Ecology Impact; Resistance Mechanism inside Livings and Methods of
Developing Resistant Strains etc. The workshop is aimed at facilitating the sharing
of information on various aspects of land degradation, exchanging the country
specific information about land degradation, land use decisions and environment,
seeking possibilities for cross country projects among NAM members and promoting
scientist-to-scientist contact and interactions.

Attached please find a copy of the Announcement. Request for participation in this
event (except from the applicants from Turkey) may please be sent to the NAM S&T

Form, a copy of which is included in the Announcement (also available on the
Centre's website www.namstct.org).

The following may please be noted:  

(a)    The last date for submission of applications is 28th August 2009.

(b)    Only limited seats are available for participation in this event. Since a
large number of applications are expected, early response is advisable to avoid
disappointment. The selection will be strictly on merit, primarily based on the
applicant's interest and expertise in the field.

(c)    Application for participation in the workshop may please be made only to the
NAM S&T Centre in the Nomination Form attached with this Announcement. The
Nomination Form should be filled in completely without leaving any column blank. An
extended abstract of the presentation proposed to be made during the workshop should
be attached with the Nomination Form.

The residents of Turkey may however please submit their application only to the
Turkish organizers at the address given at the end of the Announcement.

(d)    All the participants will be received at the Denizli-Çardak airport and will
be transported to the venue of the workshop. Local hospitality, including
accommodation, meals and local transport during 28th September (1200 noon) to 2nd
October (1200 noon) 2009 (i.e. commencing from one day before the workshop and for
an additional day after its conclusion) will be arranged by the Turkish organisers.

(e)    For applications received from those member countries of the NAM S&T Centre,
which are regularly paying their annual subscription: NAM S&T Centre will provide to
and fro international airfare by Excursion Class by Shortest Route to only one
official nominee of each country, provided the application is routed through the
Focal Point of the NAM S&T Centre in the applicant's country. The list of the Focal
Points is available on the Centre's website www.namstct.org.

Additional nominations from the Focal Points as well as any other applications
made directly to the NAM S&T Centre from such member countries would also be
welcome, but such applicants would have to arrange for their own international
fare and would also be required to make payment of a Processing Fee of US$300
to the Centre in advance.

(f)     For applications received from the member countries of the NAM S&T Centre
defaulting on the payment of their annual dues: All the applicants as well as the
nominees of the Focal Points from those of the member countries that are overdue on
the payment of their annual subscription will make their own arrangement for
international travel and will also be required to make payment of a Processing Fee
of US$300 to the Centre in advance.

(g)    For nominations received from the S&T-Industry Network Members of the NAM S&T
Centre: The NAM S&T - Industry Network entitles each Network member, which has no
outstanding dues against its membership subscription, to get invitation for one or
two nominees each year, depending upon the status of its membership, with full
finances paid by the Centre for participation in appropriate activities organised by
the Centre. Accordingly, if a Network member has not yet fully availed of this
privilege and desires to make a nomination for attending this Conference, the NAM
S&T Centre will provide to and fro international airfare to Denizli-Çardak airport
by Excursion Class by Shortest Route to such official nominee of the Network member.

Any additional nominee(s), as well as the nominees of those S&T-Industry
Network Members, which are overdue on the payment of their annual network
membership subscription, will make their own arrangement for international
travel and will also be required to make payment of a Processing Fee of US$300
to the Centre in advance.

(h)    For all other applicants: Completed Nomination Form along with a Processing
Fee of US$300 may please be sent directly to the NAM S&T Centre. Such applicants
will make their own arrangement for international travel.

(i)      Other details are available in the attached Announcement.

(j)     Information on the member countries and S&T-Industry Network members of the
NAM S&T Centre and names/addresses of the Focal Points may be seen on the Centre's
website www.namstct.org.

(k)    As far as possible, all correspondence may please be made by email. All
documents to be sent may be electronically scanned and sent as attachment to the
email.

(l)      English will be the official language of the International Workshop.
