This is Ruelle representing the *Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies (IHS), the Netherlands.*

As the international Institute for urban management of the *Erasmus University Rotterdam*, IHS operates on a global scale and utilizes its experience in applied knowledge on housing and urban development to help individuals, organizations and cities to find practical solutions to problem facing their cities.

IHS offers specialized post graduate education, training, advisory services and applied research in the fields of *urban management, housing and urban environment with the mission to develop human and institutional capacities
to reduce poverty and improve the quality of life in cities.*

 Introduction :Cities are increasingly expected to undertake concrete actions to adapt to sea level rise, floods, droughts and other natural disasters exacerbated by climate change and climate variability. The impact
of climate change differs for rural and urban areas, coastal cities, mountain cities and low-latitude cities. What concrete activities should coastal cities undertake?
 This course offers management tools for urban
policy makers, planners and environmentalists.




Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to prepare local climate change plans, which address the global challenges yet focus on concrete local actions. The course will offer specific practices to manage urban
design and environmental infrastructure, in particular energy, transport, housing and water.






Content

The course introduces climate change as an integral part of sustainability, its impacts and main strategies for mitigation and adaptation.

Week 2. Mitigation strategies
Week 3. Adaptation strategies
Week 4. Local Climate Change Plans*
