Professional Librarians Need to Rebrand themselves for Rapidly Increase Digital Collection of Information’s

The Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH) conducted a training for professional librarians to explore the advantage of rapidly increasing collection of digital information, web based environment and associated sophisticated tool to serve the new information-based society.

The training oriented professional librarians to change traditional gatekeeping of printed knowledge products to advance level of managing electronic knowledge products taking advantage of progression in Science and Technology.

Either the training had equipped librarians with the knowledge on using information system in managing the library activities and sharing the resources among Research and Development institutions (R&Ds) and Higher Learning Institutions (HLIs). Also the training equipped them with the knowledge on how to use information systems in disseminating information to the potential users and increase access of information to the public.

Due to that a total of 13 participant’s improved knowledge and skills on e-Library technologies, sharing experience among professional Librarians from R&Ds and HLIs on e-library management and created R&Ds and HLIs WhatsApp group for Librarians for easy communication and problem solving on the use of e-Library.

During this training about eight (8) libraries from R&Ds and HLIs such as National Development Corporation (NDC), Tanzania Food and Nutrition Centre (TFNC), Tanzania Agriculture Research Institute (TARI) - Naliendele, National Construction Council (NCC), Tropical Pesticides Research Institute (TPRI), National Environment Management Council (NEMC), Tanzania Bureau Standards (TBS) and Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) were attended and connected to COSTECH e- library.

The training was held at Bagamoyo from 10th from 14 of November, 2020.
